to sum up this brief:
it is to leave a temporary mark someone out and about, we are able to choose our own location and material.
it must not be permanent. and must not be perceieved as an act of vandalism.

So on that note, an idea that immediatly came to my head was flowers and graves. so many people leave flowers on past loved ones gravestones to express their feelings of love and respect. it can almost be a recognision of the deceased and a way to keep them close to your heart and mind. this has become a tradtion for many, popular in america and china more so then other places. mexico for example has 'dia de muertos' or day of the dead. an almost week long holiday where they hang around the graves, have picnics and tiday them up. all to remember and keep the memories of the deceased exisiting.

flowers have always been associated with positive emotions and gestures. giving them to a loved one, to show gratitude or appreciation. its an indication that you care. certain flowers can also mean different things. the most popular example i can give is a rose being more romantic; lilys, daisies and tulips are more pure and innocent, whilst peonies and iris' and more good fortune and hopeful.

with this all in mind, obvioulst just putting flowers on graves is just a normal thing people do, i need to find a way to make it make sense. so i thought about making the flowers instead, out of paper. now in tradition, origami flowers usually mean love and life everlasting, as they are paper and never die. there are many other origami traditions, like making 1000 origami cranes would grant you good fortune and a wish. now i could go about and make 1000 flowers and scatter them around a graveyard as a huge sign of respect and love, but thats a lot of paper id be wasting.

after lookign up the reasoning behind flowers on graves and traditions with greiving towards graves in general, i guess the reason im doing paper flowers can go in two directions, either it being a false sense of respect and grief, kind of tailoring to the fact that a lot of people will go to graves withut really knowing the person and give flowers etc, and the other reason is that real flowers die, eventhough paper is biodegradable, they will last so much longer, its kind of in a similar vein to plastic flowers, fake but keep the graves looking nicer for longer.

also its fun that they are paper flowers because they will never look exactly like what they are supposed to be, and i love when i have to double take on things to make sure i saw them right. its an interesting twist.
